I cannot quite believe we have reached the end of our first half term already! The weeks have absolutely flown by, and what a busy and exciting half term it has been!

We have had another fantastic week in school, with most year groups completing their end-of-unit independent writing in English. It has been wonderful to hear the children talking so passionately about their writing and showing such pride and confidence in everything they have achieved. There has certainly been some brilliant writing taking place across the school!

One thing that has particularly stood out to me this week is the amount of oracy happening in our classrooms. Children (and staff!) have been working incredibly hard to use our AFPS Talk Moves (sentence stems) to help them express their thoughts clearly and confidently during discussions. It has been fantastic to see children respectfully disagreeing with one another, explaining their reasoning and building on each other's ideas. Our Early Years children have also been working hard on speaking clearly and confidently in full sentences, and the progress they have already made is wonderful to see. I am so proud of how our children are embracing this important part of our learning journey.

Of course, no final week of term would be complete without Mr Morris's legendary karaoke assembly! This half term's top pick was Wonderwall by Oasis, and it is safe to say that both children and staff thoroughly enjoyed singing their hearts out! There have also been plenty of spooky goings-on at our Halloween Disco, with some absolutely spook-tacular costumes!  It was lovely to see everyone having so much fun together.

As always, I would like to say a huge thank you to our wonderful staff for their continued hard work and dedication, and to all our families for your ongoing support.

I wish you all a safe, happy and restful half term. Enjoy some well-deserved family time, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday 2nd November - Miss Hume

Year 3 have been letting their imaginations run wild this week, taking inspiration from their class read, The Creakers by Tom Fletcher!

The children have been busy creating their very own mysterious ‘Creakers’, using their senses to write fantastic descriptions of these unusual creatures and the terrible mess they leave behind!

To help inspire their writing, the children very tentatively put their hands into mystery boxes, exploring different textures and thinking carefully about the adjectives they could use to describe their Creakers. There were certainly some interesting reactions as they discovered what was lurking inside!

What a fantastic way to bring descriptive writing to life! We can't wait to read their creepy creations!

Bringing Learning to Life with VR!

This week, our Year 3 and Year 5 children have had the exciting opportunity to explore our brand-new Virtual Reality (VR) headsets!

The children have been putting their problem-solving skills to the test in interactive maths escape rooms, as well as travelling around the world to explore some incredible places, including Hawaii, New York and London, all without leaving their classrooms!

Over the coming weeks, we will be exploring how we can incorporate this fantastic technology across our curriculum to create even more exciting, immersive and memorable learning experiences for our children.

It has been wonderful to see their excitement, curiosity and enthusiasm as they discover a whole new way of learning!

Year 4 – Making Their Voices Heard!

Year 4 have been putting their persuasive writing skills to fantastic use this week by writing letters to our local MP, Stuart Andrew, encouraging him to take further action on climate change and sustainability within our local community.

The children have been thinking carefully about how they can make a difference to the world around them, using powerful vocabulary and persuasive techniques to share their ideas and concerns.

What a wonderful example of our children using their voices to make a positive difference! We are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm and determination and are very excited to hear what Mr Andrew has to say in response! ??

 Our First Ever Primary Parkrun!

What an incredible success our first ever Ashby Fields Primary Parkrun was last Sunday! ??

Attendance Matters

Attendance is a priority concern as part of our commitment to safeguarding every child. We believe that children can only reach their full potential through regular, full-time education.

Our Attendance Target

Ashby Fields Primary School, we aim for all pupils to achieve at least 96% attendance.

 Why 96%
Pupils with 96% or higher attendance gain a significant advantage — that’s at least 62 more hours of learning compared to a child with just 90% attendance.

Let’s work together to support our children’s education and make every school day count!
